While most of the media failed miserably in the run-up to war (as Scott McClellan has pointed out, among many, many others), McClatchy (then, as Knight-Ridder) engaged in rigorous coverage that should be an example to all news organizations.
At their Nukes & Spooks blog, two McClatchy correspondents bypass McClellan's book and give an account of how the Iraq war was conceived of and sold, providing links to their own coverage of events at the time.
