was gonna post a comment about why the macbook air sucks but the comment window is messed up...doesnt let me add a comment, and even if i could the window comes up way too small and isn't re-sizable :-(

by the way though...

The macbook air

is too expensive
has no optical drive
has no ethernet port
has no firewire port
has ONE usb port
has MONO speakers
has slow 4800 rpm hard drive (because its smaller)
has slow processor (maxes out at 1.6)

I'd wait a while...

Waiting a while isn't gonna be a problem. I guess I like the idea more than the product.

It is thin, but the specs don't compare to the Sony VAIO.

See them here.

Of course, if you wish to sacrifice power and versatility for thinness, none of these numbers will matter.

Well, we are not far away from being able to do both with out any sacrifices. Plus optical drives and firewire are losing out in the big picture anyway. You can also get a usb hub and a usb-ethernet adapter(although with wireless internet there aren't going to be many times when you need ethernet. 1.6 processor and 4800 rpm is still fairly common for laptops. I agree these aren't made for gaming and intensive design, but for general computer use it has most everything you need.

You are right. If one's primary need for a laptop is email, internet, word processing, and other office-type applications, then the Macbook will do just fine. And I would bet that most people who purchase laptops use them for just that.
